Predicting Retention in Higher Education from high-stakes Exams or School GPA

The transition from secondary to tertiary education varies country country. In many countries, school is concluded with high-stakes, national exams, or high-stakes entry tests are used for admissions education. other secondary-school grade point average (GPA) the determining factor. Netherlands, both play a role. With administrative data of close 180,000 students, we investigated whether exam scores GPA was better predictor first-year retention. For university and higher professional education, prediction retention, extent that exams did not explain any additional variance. Moreover, students who failed their exam, being held back by an year entering one later, in failure remained as predictive had passed started immediately. National scores, on hand, no value at all these students. It measures aspects student performance included but subsequent success
